Economic Impact

BC had an economic impact of more than $9 million in Transylvania County, according to a study by the Center for Regional Development at Western Carolina University. The study found that BC:

provided a $9.3 million total boost to the local economy;

spent more than 3.7 million in retail and lodging dollars locally;

generated almost $100,000 in local tax revenues;

provided work for 285 employees, who spend as much as $4.8 million locally; created 106 new jobs in the community due to spending.

The study also found that BC students spent almost $2 million in the local community. Visitors to the College accounted for an additional $1.2 million in spending as well.

The study also addressed the College’s anticipated addition of students that will enroll as a result of its new intercollegiate football program. The study reported that 100 additional students would generate more than 250,000 dollars in additional goods and services to the local economy each year. It also showed that BC home football games would generate almost $1.8 million in “new” money for the local economy and create new jobs at the College and in Transylvania County.
