Academic Enrichment Center
At Brevard College we believe that students taking charge of their education are going to be highly successful students. Our Academic Enrichment Center (AEC) is designed to provide students with the tools to help them achieve their academic goals. The Center’s large Commons Room is a welcoming space for everyone entering especially with the greeting from the students working at the front desk. Student assistants make the Center an inviting space for students to enter.
The Center houses a variety of offices such as the Office of Career Exploration and Development and the The Office for Students with Special Needs and Disabilities along with a computer lab providing a quiet place for study. Our four conference rooms are great for student study groups or for private tutoring by peer and/or community tutors. The Writing and Math Labs are also held in the Center and staffed by faculty and peer tutors. The convenient campus location coupled with the wide variety of services available to students make the Center one of the most popular places on campus.
One of the goals is providing resources to help students explore their own personal strengths and weaknesses, identify academic and career goals and aspirations, develop study strategies, improve their performances in current courses, prepare for graduate admissions exams, and develop stronger individual leadership and other personal skills. Students may check out a variety of academic resource materials as well as meet with an academic counselor or career counselor to set their course for being a successful student.
The AEC is where students come to be nurtured intellectually in an atmosphere where the student is treated equally whether he/she is maintaining a 4.00 or is struggling to make a 2.00; a place where students find support of personal pursuits; a place where faculty and/or staff lead workshops that enhance student learning; and above all a place where all are welcomed.
