Advising

At Brevard College, faculty serve as Academic Advisors and are matched with students from the first semester.  Often students will enter without a declared major and the assigned Faculty Advisor serves not only with guiding initial course selection, but will support the student in the process of determining potential interests and skills leading to the choice of major.  In this case, faculty will work closely with the Office of Career Exploration and Development in order to assist the student in exploring possibilities.  Once a major has been selected, the student is always assigned to a faculty member from the discipline who then remains the student’s advisor through completion of the degree.

All changes to class schedules must be approved by the student’s Faculty Advisor, including adding or dropping courses.  This oversight allows the faculty member to watch closely over the student’s course load, assisting the student in maintaining progress toward completion.
