SENIOR ART EXHIBITION
April 9 - May 5, 2010

in Spiers Gallery, Sims Art Building

Maranda Ashe, Painting Major
Over the past two years I have been experimenting with painting and photography and I have found that a mixture of the two conveys memory in a very visually powerful way. While I paint I pay close special attention to mark making and allowing the paint to flow freely. I enjoy a kind of controlled chaos.

Laura Barr, Sculpture Major
I am fasinated by line, the way it can create shapes and interact with itself. Line can portray structure as well as organic form beautifully, and both are things I try to convey in my work. there is something very intriguing about the juxtaposition of organic grace and geometric structure.

J. Andrew Davis, Sculpture Major
Artwork is universal in both its creation and its experience. People from vastly different cultures can view the same work of Art and come to the same conclusions regarding formal design theory such as composition, form and movement. Thus I have come to view my work and intention of my work to come as an earnest search for Truth.

Jennifer Gift, Photography/Graphic Design Major
While studying Art at the colligate level I have begun to understand what in my surroundings I am particularly drawn to and inspired by. What takes precedence in my art of late are the odditities; reflections, shadows, juxtaposed forms.

Donna Hooper, Graphic Design Major
For my Senior Exhibition, I will have a background of my own paintings scanned into the computer. I will integrate the background with type suggesting that the type was orginally part of the painting. The type will say "The ability to simplify means to eliminate the unnecessary so that the necessary may speak" (Hans Hofmann).

Rachel Montgomery, Photography/Graphic Design Major
For my senior show, I plan on creating portraits of men and women that highlight the differences between their individual ways of thinking in the area of problem-solving. The cohesive element of this collection of images will be that each person will complete the same series of tasks, in the same setting.

Marc Newton, Photography Major
What I love most about photography is any image can be created. With the right motivation, creativity, and technical skill, anything you could possibly think of can be on paper. To be able to create light, direct light as well as subjects, and form scenes all to create a concept or create a photograph with a message is what my goal is.

Shaton Pratt, Painting/Graphic Design Major
I believe a personal creativity is developed in part through life experience. The source of my creativity is generated from eventful periods that have occured or are occurring in my life or to someone close to me. These events can involve sports, technology and politics.

Brooke Seaman, Sculpture/Graphic Design Major
My art mirrors my life: everything about my life when looked at all together is so random. But when each aspect is broken down and put under a microscope, common attributes rise to the surface. For my senior exhibition I plan to explore a subject I believe defines a lot about myself, my life; who I am and how I am here today.
