As an English major at Brevard College, you will learn to communicate effectively through writing and speaking and to think creatively and critically about what you read. You will see connections among the different disciplines and appreciate cultures other than your own. In addition to your foundation in language arts, you will get to pursue an “emphasis area” that ties your particular interests to strong communication skills. Our emphasis areas include creative writing, journalism and professional communications, literary studies, teacher licensure for secondary education, and interdisciplinary studies (incorporating fields such as art, music, history, theatre, journalism, natural science, religion, philosophy, and pre-law).

Professor Hammond recently taught a linked learning community on Literature and Fitness with a Pilates class.
Scholarship Information:
The Humanities Division awards English scholarships to upperclassmen who have declared their major and excelled in the classroom. Scholarship amounts vary based on the number of qualified students. New freshmen and transfer students may qualify for academic scholarships through the Admission Office as well as need-based financial aid as a result of filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
