Ecology

The Ecology major at Brevard College strives to produce graduates who are prepared to enter graduate or professional school, immediate technical employment in the natural sciences, or other careers that are based in science. The faculty of the Ecology major endeavor to ensure that our graduates will be competitive with graduates from large research universities as well as other liberal arts institutions. Because Brevard College’s graduates receive their Bachelor of Science degree within the liberal arts setting, they are broadly trained and prepared for future employment in any area.  The ability to interpret and present scientific ideas and information is critical to success in the Ecology major and our graduates find our well-rounded approach to science helpful when entering the workforce.

It is rare to find an undergraduate major in Ecology. Our students are broadly trained not only in Biology, but in the more focused arena of Ecology. Ecology is comprehensive and involves not only collecting data from the natural world, but interpreting that data so that society can make informed choices about how ecosystems function.  Now more than ever, a degree in Ecology may allow graduates to have a positive and lasting effect on the enviornment.
