Environmental Majors

Welcome to one of the most beautiful places on earth.

Ok, so this is virtual… we get that. And we love the web as much as the next person, but Brevard College is about experiential learning, as in… go do it… get out in it… don’t just read about it or view it on a 15” monitor.

This isn’t just our glorious playground, though. It’s our lab. We study it and study in it, making use of its vast and varied offerings as part of a strong interdisciplinary and experiential set of environmental majors. It’s diverse and serves as an excellent place to explore biodiversity and better understand the relationship between humans and nature.

BC students take advantage of hands-on field research, internships, and a broad set of environmental perspectives while here. Between the deep research capabilities, the ability to study out in the field and the extensive ways to plug in to environmental issues academically, our graduates leave us ready for graduate school or professional careers where they can make a difference.

Not only does BC house strong and nationally recognized environmental programs, we host a lot of other cool programs as well. Every year for the past 18, we’ve hosted the Banff Mountain Film Festival and just added the Banff Mountain Radical Reels Tour. We’re one of only 2 locations in this area asked to host such a tour and if sweaty palms and a pounding chest are your thing, you should check out the links.

BC also offers experiential opportunities not found at other schools including the Voice of the Rivers program, field research in the surrounding natural environment, work and internships at the Pisgah Forest Institute, a semester-long immersion program as part of the Wilderness Leadership and Experiential Education and much more.

For 2008-2010, Brevard College’s campus theme is Sustainability: Awareness into Action. As a college, we will be exploring the theme along ecological, economic, and social lines, and activities and discussions are taking place all over our campus.

Check out the environmental majors and sign up for a visit to BC.
