The Mathematics major at Brevard College prepares graduates for a wide variety of options including: A Master’s degree program in mathematics, graduate study at a wide choice of professional schools, and various career opportunities such as actuarial science, biomathematics, financial mathematics, statistics, computer science and teaching. The program is designed to develop creativity in problem solving, the ability to think analytically, the ability to communicate mathematical knowledge and results. as well the mastery of undergraduate mathematics. Mathematics major graduates of Brevard College receive a Bachelor’s of Arts degree from a liberal arts college which contributes to their ability to succeed in many different settings.
Characteristics of the Brevard College Mathematics Program:
At Brevard, we offer the mathematics major the opportunity to interact closely with members of the mathematics faculty from the moment they arrive on campus. Mathematics majors at Brevard College will not be lost in the shuffle nor will they be weeded out. Rather, they will be supported in their undertakings every step of the way. Mathematics majors and other students interested in mathematics have the opportunity to participate in Dimensions, the mathematics club. They can also enter the international mathematics modeling contest, where many BC students have been successful participants.
You should consider the Mathematics major if you:
• Want to pursue mathematics at the graduate level
• Want to develop reasoning skills necessary for one of many fields
• Have a particular interest in a field requiring mathematical skills
• Are interested in applications of mathematics in a particular field
Some of our recent graduates have:
• Successfully completed a Master’s degree in Mathematics Education at North Carolina State University
• Completed the Physician’s Assistant program at Emory University
• Received a Master of Science degree at Colorado State University with an emphasis in mathematical
applications in hydrology
• Earned an MBA
Some of our major courses include:
Discrete mathematics

Scholarship Information:
The Environmental Studies, Mathematics, and Natural Science Division awards “challenge” grants up to $500 to promising incoming freshmen and transfer students declaring Ecology as their major. Interested students should contact Dr. Ken Duke, Chair of the ESMNS Division. All new students, ecology majors and all other majors, may also qualify for academic scholarships through the Admission Office, ranging from $3,000 - $15,000. Need-Based Financial Aid is also available to students who qualify as a result of filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
