The faculty and associated staff of the Psychology major at Brevard College strive to provide well-rounded, career-oriented, skills-based training in psychology delivered in a liberal arts context. Students are guided toward entering into health care professions, support agencies, educational settings, and applied fields, and have the opportunity to develop the sills and knowledge necessary to be successful in graduate level work.

Students are also encouraged to consider multiple perspectives toward the world in which they live and are encouraged to be active, engaged, tolerant and service-oriented citizens. Likewise students are trained to be informed consumers of psychological information and services through a programmatic emphasis on psychological literacy, and a fundamental understanding of psychological research and literature.

What makes the Brevard College Psychology Program unique?
The Psychology major is designed to be a comprehensive program and includes not only intensive academic training, but also an intensive skills training component, early career path exploration, and a system of program emphases that allow students to concentrate their studies on their most likely career choice. Students are offered a wide-range of internship and research opportunities. Other features of the program include:

• An opportunity for a final full semester of internship in the field
• Early career exploration and preparation
• A vibrant psychology club
• Attending regional conferences to network and present research
• Frequent speakers who are employed in all fields of psychology

Psychology is also considered to be a good general stepping stone for entry into almost any other field, including many graduate programs outside of the major. Skills in data management and statistical analysis are at a premium in academics, health care, and in business.

Faculty Highlights:
The Brevard College Psychology Faculty have a diversity of academic and research interests. Dr. Dan Moore focuses on Social Psychology and interpersonal relations. His research specifically involves betrayal, the development of cynical attitudes, and personal integrity. Professor Steve Martin has many years of experience in counseling and social work, and presently conducts research in Industrial/Organizational Psychology. Other faculty specialize in Experimental Psychology with interests in verbal learning and verbal behavior; Sports Psychology with interests in gender issues and coed sports.

Scholarship Information:
The Social Sciences Division awards Psychology scholarships to upperclassmen who have declared their major and excelled in the classroom. All new students, Psychology majors and all other majors, may also qualify for academic scholarships through the Admission Office, ranging from $3,000 to $15,000. Need- Based Financial Aid is also available to students who qualify as a result of filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
