HS - Junior

  • Focus on strong academic performance, especially this year! Your early application to colleges next fall will use your high school transcript up through your Junior Year as decision material. Be sure you are making your best efforts.
  • Meet with your School Counselor to confirm requirements are being met based on your considerations for various colleges.
  • Take the SAT or ACT preparation courses. Many test-preparation services are available for free on-line. (See our Resources page for suggestions.)
  • Attend College Fairs and take the initiative to introduce yourself to the College Counselors at their tables. Many college representatives make recommendations based on good conversations at College Fairs. Take advantage of this opportunity.
  • Watch for Open Campus Day Events (like those scheduled at Brevard College) and arrange to attend at least two during your Junior Year.
  • In the spring, be sure to register for the SAT and/or ACT.
  • Select courses for your senior year that strengthen your academic record.
  • Talk right now to two or three high school teachers about writing letters of recommendation for your application files.
  • Summer? Be sure to narrow down your college choices to 2-3 schools. Schedule private visits at those campuses. It’s best to visit during the school year (fall semester is prime-time) to see the campus “alive.”
  • Also in summer, request admission and financial aid packets from your top 2-3 schools and begin completing those forms.
