Krogman, Galloway Earn Brevard College Top Athletic Awards
 
Brevard, N.C. – On Monday night, May 5, Brevard College announced its 2007-08 athletic award winners for its student-athletes. The awards were presented at the annual athletic ceremony held at the Porter Center last night. Heading the list of award winners were Holly Krogman and Shane Galloway, who were awarded the Female and Male Athlete of the Year Awards, and Jessica Guadagno and men’s soccer coach Juan Mascaro, who were given the Eagle Wings Leadership Awards.
 
Krogman, a women’s basketball player from Hickory, N.C., was named the Brevard College Female Athlete of the Year. This was the second consecutive year in which Krogman received this honor. In her senior year, Krogman led the Tornados in scoring and rebounding and was named the team MVP for the third straight season. She finished the year third in the South Atlantic Conference in scoring and was ranked in the top-10 in almost every statistical category in the SAC for most of the season. The three-year team captain finished her career as the Brevard College All-Time Career Scoring Leader in basketball for both men and women, scoring 1,513 career points over her four years at Brevard College.
 
Galloway, of Rosman, N.C., was named the Brevard College Male Athlete of the Year, as the sophomore is a member of both the baseball and basketball teams. Galloway was named the Brevard College Baseball Most Valuable Player as the left-handed starting pitcher led the team with four wins on the season and a team-low ERA of 3.50, which placed him in the top-10 in the conference in ERA among starting pitchers. On the mound, Galloway had a team-high five complete games on the season and pitched a team-high 69.1 innings. On the basketball court, Galloway was a key contributor off the bench for BC, as he averaged 7.9 points in 19.5 minutes per game off the bench. He was the high scorer for the Tornados in two contests, scoring a season-high 20 points at Erskine.
 
Guadagno, a soccer player from Port Colborne, Ontario, Canada and head men’s soccer coach Mascaro received the Eagle Wings Leadership Awards for their leadership, dedication, hard work and involvement in not only BC athletics but in the community and the campus as a whole. Guadagno, a sophomore defender on the women’s soccer team, is a leader both on and off the field as she is involved with the SAAC as well as the Tornado Club, reaching out to the community in a number of different ways. Coach Mascaro received this honor by way of the student-athletes at Brevard College, as he was recognized for his work not only in men’s soccer, but also his involvement in campus and community happenings and his positive attitude toward Brevard College as a whole.
 
Other top awards went to senior tennis player Kimberlee Cooper, who won the Senior GPA Award and the Women’s Soccer team who won the Team GPA Award.
