#19 USC-Aiken Doubles Up the Tornados with the 14-7 Win
 
Aiken, S.C. – For the second straight game against the #19 nationally ranked USC-Aiken Pacers, the Brevard College men’s baseball team jumped out to an early first inning lead, only to give up 14 runs and fall 14-7 on Wednesday afternoon.
 
The Tornados scored first, as second-baseman Adam Arrowood, who was hitting in the number two spot of the BC lineup, hit a homerun over the left field wall to plate two and put BC up early 2-0.
 
The Pacers answered back with a run of their own in the bottom of the first, scoring on an RBI single by third-baseman Ken Raborn putting the score at 2-1.
 
After the Tornados scored one in the top of the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Brice Warner to drive in Chris White from third, USC-Aiken went on an offensive onslaught scoring 13 runs over the next five innings to help seal the 14-7 win.
 
Brevard battled throughout the game, never giving up as they scored one run in the sixth, as Matt Rose scored on a Mike Jones groundout, and three runs in the eighth as Jones had an RBI single to drive in Rose, followed by a Warner double to center and a single by Arrowood driving in two for the Tornados to cut the lead to 13-7 at the time.
 
USC-Aiken pushed across one in the bottom of the eighth and held of the Tornados in the top of the ninth for the 14-7 victory.
 
The win goes to the Pacer’s Houston Taylor (1-0) as he came into the game in the middle innings, going 2.0 innings allowing one run on two hits.
 
Newcomer Matt Castro (1-1) picked up the loss, his first on the season. Castro went 4.1 innings, allowing seven runs on eight Pacer hits.
 
At the plate, BC was led by second-baseman Adam Arrowood, who went 2-4 with a two-run homerun, four RBIs and one run scored. Left-fielder Mike Jones was 2-4 with two RBIs and a run scored, while sophomore Brice Warner was 1-3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored.
 
For the Pacers, right-fielder Gary Owens was 4-4 with two homeruns, three RBIs and four runs scored. Short-stop Chris Grandinetti was 4-5 with a homerun, a double, five RBIs and two runs scored on the day.
 
The Tornados (4-6) will be back in action on the road this Saturday, February 23, when they will travel to Hickory, N.C. to face off with the Bears of Lenoir-Rhyne College. The two teams will play a double-header on Saturday afternoon beginning at noon with the third game of the series coming on Sunday afternoon.
