BC Baseball Drops Twin Bill at Lenoir-Rhyne on Saturday Afternoon
 
Hickory, N.C. – The Brevard College baseball team traveled to Hickory, N.C. to play two games on Saturday afternoon against South Atlantic Conference foe Lenoir-Rhyne, dropping both games of the double-header to the Bears, 14-0 and 5-4.
 
The Tornados fall to 4-8 on the season, while Lenoir-Rhyne improves to 6-8 overall.
 
The two teams will play the final game of the three-game series tomorrow afternoon with the first pitch slated for 1 p.m.
 
Game 1: Lenoir-Rhyne 14, Brevard 0
 
The Bears used a three run first and a four run second to go ahead 7-0 over the Tornados after only two innings of play.
 
Lenoir-Rhyne added three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to push their lead to 14-0 heading into the final inning.
 
The Bears’ Padgett and Beane combined for the shutout win, with Padgett (2-0) picking up the win allowing only three hits and striking out four over 5.0 innings.
 
The Tornados right-hander Spencer Linn (1-1) got the loss, his first on the year, as he gave up 10 runs on 12 hits over 4.2 innings of action.
 
At the dish, BC was led by senior third-baseman Chris White, who went 2-3 from the seven spot in the lineup. Right-fielder Mike Jones and designated hitter Josh Miller both were 1-3 from the plate, while the other Tornado hit came off the bat of left-fielder Zac Williams who was 1-4.
 
The Bears had 14 hits by six different players led by junior third-baseman Daniel Ford, who went 5-6 from the plate. First-baseman Zach Glass was 2-5 with a homerun, a triple, four RBIs and three runs scored. The Bears had three other players with multiple hits in the game – Wofford (3-3), Andrews (3-5), and Taylor (2-4).
 
Game 2: Lenoir-Rhyne 5, Brevard 4
 
In game two, the Bears came back from behind in the bottom of the last inning, plating two, to score the 5-4 win over the visiting Tornados.
 
The Tornados got on the scoreboard first, as senior Seth Corliss scored on a sacrifice fly from fellow classmate Chris White to put the BC up 1-0 after two innings.
 
BC pushed two more runs across the plate in the top of the fourth, as catcher Josh Miller had a double to left-field scoring both Justin Frady and Corliss to put the Tornados up 3-0. Frady had reached base with a single to left, while Corliss doubled to left center field to put two BC runners in scoring position.
 
However, in the bottom of the fifth Lenoir-Rhyne evened the score up at 3-3, as they pushed three runs across of their own. After Andrews doubled, Wofford tripled to right field to drive in Andrews. Drucker then singled to left to drive in Wofford to put the score at 3-2. After Sully sacrificed Drucker to second, Ford singled to left, scoring Drucker and knotting the game up at 3-3.
 
The Tornados took a 4-3 lead in the top of the seventh, as Zac Williams, who had doubled earlier in the inning, scored on an Adam Arrowood single up the middle.
 
Only three outs away from the win, the Tornados couldn’t put the Bears away. Lenior-Rhyne scored two runs on two hits and one BC error in the bottom of the seventh to win the game 5-4.
 
The win goes to the Bears’ Henderson (1-1), who went the distance, going all seven innings, allowing four runs on eight BC hits and striking out seven.
 
The loss went to BC’s senior closer Chris White (0-2), as he allowed two runs, one earned, on two hits in 0.1 innings on the mound.
 
Designated hitter Seth Corliss was 2-2 with a double and two runs scored, while catcher Josh Miller was 2-2 with a sacrifice fly and two RBIs. Second-baseman Adam Arrowood was 2-4 with an RBI, while Zac Williams was 1-3 with a double and a run scored.
 
For Lenoir-Rhyne, designated hitter Harrison was 2-2 with a double and an RBI, while Wofford was 2-3 with a triple, one RBI and one run scored.
