Tornados Split Saturday Double-Header With Newberry
Brevard, N.C. – The Brevard College men’s baseball team split a twin bill on Saturday afternoon, as BC picked up a 6-3 win in game one before falling to the Newberry Indians 10-6 in game two.
With the split the Tornados move to 9-18 on the season, while Newberry goes to 11-20 for the year.
Game 1: Brevard 6, Newberry 3
In the opening game, the Tornados offense came alive, as BC knocked 13 hits with two of those hits solo homeruns off the bat of junior outfielder Brice Warner.
Sophomore left-handed hurler Shane Galloway (3-3) picked up his third win of the season, as he went the distance giving up three runs on seven hits in the complete game.
For the second consecutive game, the Newberry Indians scored a run in the top of the first, this time on a David Tunstill RBI single to right center that plated left-fielder Nick Martin who had reached base on a BC throwing error.
The Indians added another run in the top of the fourth as designated hitter Paul Silliman scored from third on a Tunstill ground ball to put Newberry up 2-0.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Tornados knotted the score up at 2-2 with one swing of the bat, as Warner hit a line drive over the left-center field wall, his second home run of the season.

Once again Brevard had an answer, this time scoring three in the bottom of the seventh to take a 5-3. First-baseman Justin Frady started the rally with a double to left-center and then advanced to third on a wild pitch. Designated hitter Matt Rose then doubled to left to score Frady.
After Rose moved up to third on a wild pitch, Mitch Hefner drew a base-on-balls and then stole second, before Arrowood came up with a clutch two-out single to third to score both Rose and Hefner and put the Tornados up 5-3.
BC added a run in the eighth by way of a second Brice Warner solo shot, this time a sky scraper over the left field wall, his team-high third long ball on the year.
Warner was 2-4 with two homeruns, two RBIs and two runs scored, while Arrowood was 2-4 with three RBIs. Freshman Matt Rose was 2-5 with a double, an RBI and a run scored, while Frady was 1-4 with a double and a run scored.

In the second game of the double-header, the Indians used 18 hits and an eight run fifth inning to pull away from the Tornados for the 10-6 win.
Newberry again jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, as catcher Zach Upton had an RBI single to score Casio Grider from second, who led off the inning with a double to right.
The Indians pulled ahead 2-0 by way of two BC errors in the top of the fourth, as Thomas Berryhill crossed the plate on the play.
The Tornados pushed across a run of their own in the bottom of the fourth, as Matt Rose had an RBI double to right center that plated Justin Frady from second, which cut the Newberry lead to 2-1.
However, the Indians pulled away for good in the top of the fifth, as Newberry scored eight runs by way of eight hits and two Tornado errors to push the score to 10-1.
Brevard attempted to fight back scoring two runs in the bottom of the fifth and three more in the bottom of the seventh, but it was too little too late as the Tornados fell 10-6.
The win went to Newberry starter Brandon Petty (3-6), who gave up six runs, four earned, on 10 hits while striking out eight BC hitters in 6.2 innings.
Berryhill (3) picked up the save, getting the last out of the game with the bases loaded and the score at 10-6.
