No. 13 Seawolves Defeat Tornados in Men’s Basketball Action
Anchorage, Alaska – In the second consecutive night, the Brevard College men’s basketball battled the No. 13 Alaska-Anchorage in the Great Northwest, as BC took the Seawolves to the limit before falling 80-48.
The loss drops the Tornados to 0-2 on the year, while UAA improves to 2-0 with the win.
BC came out firing in the first half, as they stayed with the No. 13 ranked Seawolves for the first 20 minutes, only falling behind in double-digits late in the first half. The Tornados shot 33.3% from the floor, a much higher percentage than last night’s first half struggles, and find themselves only down 13 at the half.
However, the second half did not fare well for the Tornados as the offense again would go ice cold from the field. Facing foul trouble with a number of key performers, the Tornados once again struggled from the floor connecting on 6-of-21 from the field.
On the other hand, the experienced Seawolves came out on fire in the second half, as they connected on 17-of-29 attempts, including going 4-of-7 from behind the three-point line to push the game out of reach early in the second half.
While the 80-48 score does not show it, the Tornados played with well on Saturday night, as the played with much more fight and intensity for the entire 40 minutes of play, pushing the Seawolves to work hard for everything they did.
For the game, BC shot 16% from behind the three-point line, going 4-of-25 from behind the arc. However, the Tornados shot 77.8% from the free throw line, including making 12-of-15 from the charity stripe in the second half.
The Tornados were led by sophomore forward Jonathan Whitson, who had a quiet 17 points and six rebounds. Whitson went 9-of-11 from the free throw line, as he found himself there for most of the second half.
Juniors Joseph Chilton and Sean Ferretti each had six points, while sophomore Andrew Freeman contributed with six points of his own, all in the second half.
The Seawolves were once again led by their pre-season All-America candidate Carl Arts and NCAA Division I transfer Chris Bryant. Arts had 15 points on the night, while Bryant poured in 19 points, connection on five three-pointers.
The men’s basketball team will be back in action on Friday, November 23, when they will play in the Pfeiffer University College tournament in Charlotte, N.C. The Tornados will play the host, Pfeiffer University, on Friday night at 7 p.m.
