Tornados Fall on the Road to Mars Hill, 87-66
 
Mars Hill, N.C. – The Brevard College men’s basketball team took on the Lions of Mars Hill for the second time this season on Saturday afternoon, falling on the road at Mars Hill, 87-66.
 
The loss drops the Tornados to 2-9 overall, while the Lions improve to 4-5 with the win.
 
The Lions jumped out to an early lead in the first half, put the Tornados would not go away as BC never trailed for more than nine points in the opening seven minutes of play.  
 
Yet the Lions would not relinquish the lead and used their pressure defense to take a 40-31 lead into the halftime intermission.
 
However, behind their three-point shooting the Lions would continually increase its lead in the second half of play, as the Lions hit eight three-point baskets to pull away. 
 
The Tornados continued to battle hard scoring from both inside and outside, but it wasn’t enough as the offensive surge by the Lions kept BC at bay.
 
Sophomore Jonathan Whitson led the way for the Tornados with 24 points, 16 of those coming in the first period. Junior guard Radosav Babic was the only other BC player in double-figures scoring with 10 points.
 
Mars Hill was led by point guard Stoney Polite, who had 33 points on 12-of-14 shooting including going 7-of-9 from behind the three-point arc.
 
The Lions shot 54.4 percent from the floor, while the Tornados shot 37.7 percent and were forced into committing 31 turnovers for the contest.
 
The Brevard College men’s basketball team will continue their tough SAC play on Wednesday, January 9, when they will host the Bears’ of Lenoir-Rhyne at 8 p.m. The game will be the second game of a double-header as the women will play at 6 p.m. in Boshamer Gymnasium on the campus of Brevard College.
