Tornados Prepare For Road Game at No. 13 Carson-Newman

Brevard, N.C. – The Brevard College Tornados are coming off their second win of the season, as they defeated LaGrange College 38-21 last Saturday afternoon at Brevard Memorial Stadium.

Yet the Tornados (2-6) most challenging test of the season will come this Saturday as they will travel to Jefferson City, T.N. to square off with the No. 13 ranked Carson-Newman Eagles, who are 7-1 overall and 3-1 in South Atlantic Conference play.

In last week’s victory, the Tornados picked up a season high 415-yards, with 379-yards coming by way of the ground attack. BC had five players rush for over an average of 5.0 yards per carry, en route to scoring five touchdowns. Running back John Taylor led the Tornados rushing attack, as he ran for 122-yards on 16 attempts and a touchdown. Freshman quarterback Trey Wilborn rushed 12 times for 86-yards and two scores, while fullback Desmond Wilson picked up 65-yards on 12 rushing attempts, while also picking up his first score of the season.

The BC defense is coming off a great performance in which they forced four LaGrange turnovers and as a team collected 10 tackles for losses as they continued to find themselves in the LaGrange backfield all afternoon.

However, the Tornados defense will be asked to step up their game this week, as the Carson-Newman Eagles bring forth a high powered spread offense that has managed to gain 3,178 yards over its first eight games of the season.

The nationally ranked Eagles have proven that they can run the ball, as on the ground they have rushed for 1,977-yards. Carson-Newman is led by quarterback Alex Good who has rushed the ball 72 times for 610-yards and eight touchdowns. However, running backs Buck Wakefield and Ricky Harris have combined to rush for 739-yards and 15 touchdowns out of the backfield for the Eagles so far this season and will carry much of the offensive load for Carson-Newman.

The Carson-Newman passing game is led by Good as well, as he has connected on 32 of his 66 pass attempts for 754-yards and eight touchdowns. However, backup quarterback Alex Rouse will also see some time on Saturday afternoon, as he is thrown for 441-yards and four touchdowns this season.

The game on Saturday will be the first meeting between the Tornados and Carson-Newman on the gridiron. BC is 0-4 versus South Atlantic Conference members so far this season and will look to pick up their first win over a SAC member this week.  The kick-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
