BC Men’s Golf Sets School Records In Montreat Spring Invitational
Hendersonville, N.C. – The Brevard College men’s golf team shot a school record combined low round of 287, -1, on Tuesday to come back from four strokes behind to win the Montreat Spring Invitational tournament hosted at the Crooked Creek Golf Course in Hendersonville, N.C.
The win marks the third straight year in which the Tornados have won the Montreat Spring Invitational and is Brevard’s ninth tournament win over the past three years.
The Tornados, who found themselves down four strokes after round one on Monday, came storming back to shoot a record low team round of 287, -1, to give them a two-day team score of 588, +12, and win the tournament by 17 strokes.
The Tornados were led by senior David Martinez, who carded rounds of 73 and 70 for a combined two-round score of 143, -1, which was good enough for a second-place overall finish for the event.
Junior Craig Galloway turned in a top-five finish as well, as he turned in a score of 147, +3 for the tournament.
Fellow junior Myles Johnson and sophomore Thomas Bush both carded tournament scores of 152, +8. Johnson turned in rounds of 78 and 74, while Bush shot a 71, -3, on day two.
Sophomore Grant Carnie also played well in the event, shooting a two-day score of 155, +11.
“It was a significant milestone to finally post a team score under par in tournament play,” commented head coach David Nelson. “We have made great strides in developing this program and I could not be prouder of my current roster of players for their hard work and dedication.”
The Tornados finished 17 strokes ahead of the second-place finisher Spartanburg Methodist (605). Southern Wesleyan University (607), Union College (613) and Milligan College (633) rounded out the top-five.
