Pioneers Beat Tornados in Men’s Soccer Action
Brevard, N.C. – The Brevard College men’s soccer team was in action at home on Wednesday afternoon, as they fell to the Pioneers of Tusculum College, 5-1.
With the loss the Tornados fall to 2-6, while the win pushes Tusculum to 3-5 on the season.
The Pioneers struck first in the ninth minute when Bruno Conceicao took a shot from straight on from a little over 18 yards out. The shot bounded hard of the right front goal post and bounced off to a wide open Lucas Paulini, who put a one-touch shot into the lower left corner of the net past the diving BC keeper Trevor Redpath to take an early 1-0 lead.
At the 18:34 mark the Pioneers added to their lead, as Anteneh Lemma put a pass from just outside the right of the box over the BC defense hitting an open Conceicao in front of the net, putting a shot into the lower right corner just inside the back right post increasing the lead to 2-0.
Tusculum once again added to their lead at the 31:28 mark when Gareth Williams made good on a penalty kick, pushing the Pioneers lead to 3-0.
The Tornados cut into the 3-0 lead early in the second half, when sophomore Ian Townson scored on a free kick from just outside the box, knocking it just past Tusculum keeper Lance Moore putting BC on the board. The goal was Townson’s first goal of the season.
Yet the Pioneers answered back in the 74th minute as Telmo Dantes received a pass from Williams on the left side, putting a shot by Redpath pushing the lead back up to 4-1.
Paulini added his second goal of the game late in the second half making the score 5-1.
The Tornados continue their tough full South Atlantic Conference schedule this Saturday, September 22, when they will travel to Harrogate, T.N. to face off with Lincoln Memorial University. The match is slated to begin at 4 p.m.
