Clayton State Defeats BC in Men’s Soccer Action
Brevard, N.C. – The Brevard College men’s soccer team played only their second home game of the young season on Friday afternoon as they hosted the Laker’s of Clayton State University. The Clayton State Lakers are ranked #15 nationally by the adidas/NSCAA poll.
The Tornados battled hard versus the regionally ranked and undefeated Lakers, however, they were unable to find the back of the net, ultimately falling 3-0.
The loss drops the Tornados to 2-3 on the season, while the win moves the Lakers to 3-0-1 for the season.
The Lakers first goal of the game came at the 23:07 mark as they were able to get through the BC defense and put a shot past a diving Trevor Redpath. Tonny Madegwa was able to split the defense and found a cutting Jamal Geathers along the right side of the box. Geathers than put a laser shot just inside of the front right post, just out of the reach of the outstretched arms of Redpath giving the Lakers a 1-0 lead.
The Lakers would add two insurance goals in the second half, helping to secure their win.
The first insurance goal came at the 58:40 mark by way of Johnny Lara. Hailab Habtom scored the third Laker goal at the 65:49 mark, giving Clayton State a 3-0 lead.
For the match the Tornados were out shot 24-5 for the match.
BC senior keeper Redpath posted seven saves for the match as the he was bombarded with shots all afternoon.
The men’s soccer team will look to get things back on the right track next Tuesday, September 11, as they will once again play at home at 4 p.m. The Tornados will play host to Lenoir-Rhyne.
