Hilton Head, S.C. – The Brevard College men’s tennis team wrapped up their spring break road trip with a 5-4 win over St. Lawrence University on Friday morning. For the week, the Tornados were undefeated, going 5-0 against five different schools in Hilton Head, S.C.

 

The Tornados jumped out to an early 2-1 lead, winning the top two doubles bouts. 

 

At the No. 1 doubles spot, BC duo of Jared Fisher and Cole Altizer defeated St. Lawrence’s squad of Chris McDonald and Jon Satkowski, 8-5. The Tornados tandem of Konstantin Savelyev and Andrew Thompson easily dropped the duo of Chris Tamm and Chris Rodilloso from St. Lawrence 8-2 at the No. 2 slot.

 

While the Tornados won three out of the six singles bouts, BC picked up the win early by coming out victorious at the conclusion of the first three matches.

 

Thompson defeated St. Lawrence’s Pete Abernethy at the No. 2 singles spot, winning in straight sets 6-2, 6-0, to put the Tornados up 3-1.

 

BC’s Fisher then dropped McDonald in straight sets 6-0, 6-1, at the No. 3 spot.

 

Freshman Cole Altizer than assured the Tornados the win, as he beat Will Cook at the No. 4 singles spot in straight sets 6-3, 6-1, to give Brevard the five team points for the win.

 

“Obviously this was an awesome week for our guys,” commented head coach Paul Thomson. “Perhaps the biggest thing we got out of this week with a lot of close matches was the confidence that we now believe that we can win as we look forward to the rest of the season.”

 

With their fifth consecutive win, the Tornados improve to 6-5 on the year.

 

The Tornados will return to action on Tuesday, March 25, when they will take on the Eagles of Carson-Newman. This match was re-scheduled from a rain out earlier this season. The match is slated for a 2 p.m. start time in Jefferson City, T.N.
