Brevard College Men’s Tennis Downs Lenoir-Rhyne, 6-3
Hickory, N.C. – The Brevard College men’s tennis team opened up their spring season with a 6-3 win over Lenoir-Rhyne Friday afternoon at Hickory High School.
In doubles play, Brevard was led by Andrew Thompson and Konstantin Savelyev as they won No. 1 doubles, 8-0. The Tornados duo of Jared Fisher and Shane Apps defeated L-R’s team of Robert Dough and Nathanael Summer at the No. 2 doubles spot, 8-2.
Heading into the singles competition with a 2-1 lead, the Tornados took four out of the six matches to defeat the Bears 6-3.
The Tornados’ Thompson took No. 1 singles in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1, over Lenoir-Rhyne’s Summer, while BC newcomer Savelyev claimed victory in No. 2 singles by beating Jared Elkins of L-R, 6-1, 6-0.
At the No. 3 singles spot, Brevard’s Fisher blanked Brad Totten of Lenior-Rhyne, 6-0, 6-0, while at the No. 4 position Apps defeated Dough of L-R, in straight sets 6-2, 6-1.
The men’s tennis team is back in action on the road on Sunday, March 2, when they will travel to Greeneville, T.N. to face off with the Pioneers of Tusculum College. The match is slated to begin at 2 p.m.
