Brevard College Men’s Tennis Signs Three
Brevard, N.C. - The Brevard College athletics department along with head men’s tennis coach Paul Thomson are pleased to announce that Jared Fisher, Konstantin Savelyev and Nathan Lyles have all signed a national letter of intent to attend Brevard College and play tennis for the Tornados.
Jared Fisher, who hails from Primerose East South Africa, is ranked nationally in both singles and doubles play. In the under 23 national singles rankings, Fisher is ranked #16 in the nation, while in the under 19 national doubles rankings he is #7 in South Africa. Last year, Fisher won the Most Dedicated Player of the Year Award for his determination hard work ethic.
“Jared has a hard working business like attitude,” commented Coach Thomson. “He will bring an immediate blue collar workmanlike ethic to the team, not to mention he has great potential to be an impact player for us.”
Fisher, who intends to study both Psychology and Sport Management, will be attending Brevard College in January of 2008 and will be competing for the Tornados this spring.
Savelyev will be coming to Brevard from Karaganda, Kazakhstan, where he is ranked #2 in his state. Nationally, Savelyev is ranked in the top-10 nationally.
“Konstantin is a mature and experienced player with a solid all around game, “stated Coach Thomson. “He will bring leadership, maturity and discipline to the team.”
Like Fisher, Savelyev will be start at Brevard College in January 2008 and will look to compete for playing time this spring. While at Brevard Savelyev plans to major in business and marketing.
Lyles, who will be coming to Brevard College in the fall of 2008, is from Manning, South Carolina. Lyles is currently the #8 ranked player throughout the state of South Carolina. While at Manning High School, Lyles has posted a 4.24 grade point average and is the President of both the SGA and the FFA organizations.
“Athleticism is his strong suit,” commented Thomson. “He has a powerful game and will be a great player out of the gates and will develop into a solid collegiate student-athlete.”
Lyles plans to major in exercise science at Brevard College.
The Brevard College men’s tennis team had a strong 2007 fall season and is looking forward toward their upcoming 2008 spring season which begins on February 8 at Erskine College.
Brevard College is in its second year as provisional members of the NCAA Division II and is competing this season as provisional members of the South Atlantic Conference.
