Men’s Tennis Blanks Nazareth College 9-0
 
Hilton Head, S.C. – The Brevard College men’s tennis team kick started their Spring Break matches with a bang on Sunday afternoon, as the Tornados defeated Nazareth College of Rochester, N.Y. 9-0.
 
The Tornados swept all three doubles bouts on Sunday afternoon headlined by an 8-0 win by Shane Apps and Sam Johnston at the No. 3 doubles spot.
 
At the No. 1 doubles position, the Brevard tandem of Cole Altizer and Jared Fisher defeated Nazareth’s duo of Terrance Nichols and Jon Weaver 7-5 in a tiebreaker to win the match 9-8.
 
At the No. 2 doubles, BC’s Konstantin Savelyev and Andrew Thompson cruised past their opponents of Stephen Trobert and Adam Landry to win 8-2.
 
With a 3-0 lead heading into singles play, the Tornados took all six singles matches to score the overall 9-0 win.
 
At the No. 1 singles spot, BC’s Savelyev defeated Nazareth’s Weaver in straight sets 6-2, 6-0.
 
The Tornados Thompson defeated Nichols of Nazareth 6-0, 6-2, at the No. 2 spot, while Fisher dropped Landry at the No. 3 spot, 6-1, 6-0.
 
BC’s Altizer defeated Nazareth’s Stephen Trobert 6-1, 6-3 at the No. 4 spot, while at the No. 5 position Apps beat Alex Bodensieck in straight sets 6-0, 6-1.
 
Not to be outdone, Brevard’s Johnston dropped his opponent Jerry Stocker at the No. 6 spot, 6-1, 6-1.
 
With the win the Tornados improve to 2-5 on the season.
 
The Tornados will continue their Spring Break play on Monday, March 17, when they will take on Tiffin University at 6 p.m. in Hilton Head, S.C.
