Men’s Tennis Falls At Home To Mars Hill 5-4
Brevard, N.C. – The Brevard College men’s tennis team returned home for their first home match in over three weeks, as the Tornados were edged out by the Lions of Mars Hill 5-4 on Wednesday afternoon.
The Tornados fell behind early, as the Lions picked up two wins in doubles play to take an early 2-1 lead.
BC’s duo of Konstantin Savelyev and Andrew Thompson defeated the Lions unit of Camilo Bueno and Esteban Mesa at the No. 2 spot, 8-5.
The Tornados comeback came up just short, as BC split the six singles bouts with the Lions to ultimately fall 5-4 on the day.
At the No. 2 doubles spot, BC’s Thompson bounced back from a tough 6-7 first set loss, to win the second set 6-2 and the third set super-tiebreaker 10-8 to win the match over the Lions’ Taylan Batuk.
Like Thompson, Brevard’s Jared Fisher battled back from a first set 6-7 loss to defeat Mesa of Mars Hill in what was arguably the most exciting match of the day. Fisher won the second set 7-6 on a 10-8 tiebreaker and then won the third set super-tiebreaker 10-3 to pick up the win at the No. 3 spot.
Freshman Cole Altizer scored a win over Bueno of Mars Hill, again coming from behind to win 4-6, 6-4, 7-5.
With the loss the Tornados fall to 6-7 on the year.
The Tornados will return to action on tomorrow afternoon as they will play host to North Alabama at 3 p.m. on the campus of Brevard College.
