Day One Results of BC Mountain Invitational Tennis Tournament
Brevard, N.C. – The first day of the Second Annual Brevard College Mountain Invitational Tennis tournament was a success, as a number of matches took place on Friday afternoon.
In the men’s singles draw Brevard College proved to be a force as sophomore Andrew Thompson defeated Carson-Newman's Harvie in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2 to advance. Freshman Cole Altizer hung on to upset North Georgia College’s Moore, winning the tiebreaker 10-4 after falling in the second set 3-6.
The BC’s women’s tennis players would not be overshadowed as in the singles draw, two Tornados went on to win and advance. Newcomer Lindsay Shaeffer dropped NGC’s Smith in straight sets 6-4, 6-1, while sophomore Jenny Lewellen had a tougher battle in her match with Sneed of CNC, but ultimately held on to win in straight sets 6-3, 7-5.
In the women’s doubles draw, the duo of Shaeffer and Kimberly Dixon edged out their opponents winning 9-8, while the BC tandem of Lewellen and senior Kimberlee Cooper cruised past Molton and Moore of CNC, picking up the 8-1 victory.
Tournament play will continue on Saturday, September 8, at 8:30 a.m.
