BC Men’s Tennis Scores Wins Over Both Spartanburg Methodist and Maryville College on Saturday Afternoon
 
Brevard, N.C. - The Brevard College men’s tennis team defeated both Spartanburg Methodist College and Maryville College on Saturday in Brevard, as the Tornados battled the rain in order to get both matches in on the day.
 
The Tornados defeated Spartanburg Methodist 7-0, as BC won all seven matches that were played due to the weather conditions.
 
The Tornados won all three doubles bouts to take an early 3-0 lead. 
 
At the No. 1 doubles spot, the duo of Cole Altizer and Jared Fisher held on for a 9-7 win over Spartanburg Methodist’s team of Drew Shelly and Christian Ranguelov.
 
The Tornados tandem of Konstantin Savelyev and Andrew Thompson cruised past the duo of Gordon Arledge and M. Dudley, 8-3 at the No. 2 spot, while at the No. 3 position, the team of Shane Apps and Sam Johnston dominated the match, defeating M. Boswell and Andrew Jackson of SMC, 8-1.
 
In singles play, the Tornados completed the sweep as they won all four matches that were played due to the wet court conditions.
 
BC’s Thompson won in straight sets 6-3, 6-0, at the No. 2 singles spot, as he defeated Dudley of Spartanburg Methodist.
 
At the No. 3 spot, Fisher dropped Shelly 6-0, 6-3, while Apps beat Boswell of SMC in straight sets 6-0, 6-1, at the No. 5 spot.
 
The Tornados Johnston defeated Spartanburg Methodist’s Jackson 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 6 spot to seal the 7-0 win.
 
In their second match of the day, the Tornados carried over the momentum to defeat Maryville College of Tennessee 5-1.
 
In doubles play, the BC duo of Altizer and Fisher blanked Maryville’s squad of Matt Limone and Jimmy Fulton at the No. 1 position, winning 8-0.
 
Brevard’s team of Thompson and Savelyev dropped William Alexander and Andrew Hazel of Maryville 8-2 at the No. 2 doubles spot to put the Tornados up 2-0.
 
In singles action, Savelyev battled threw a number of various injuries to defeat Fulton of Maryville in straight sets 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 1 spot.
Fellow teammate, Thompson dropped Josh Duve of Maryville 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 2 spot, while Altizer defeated Hazel in straight sets 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 4 position.
 
The Tornados move to 8-8 on the season with the two wins on Saturday.
 
The men’s tennis team will return to action on Thursday, April 4, as they will play host to the Indians of Catawba College. The match is slated for a 2 p.m. start time at the tennis courts on the campus of Brevard College.
