Tornados Host Track & Field Event on Saturday
 
Brevard, N.C. – The Brevard College track and field team hosted an event on Saturday afternoon at the campus of Brevard College.
 
The Tornados had a number of strong performances on the afternoon.
 
On the men’s side, the Tornados had four first-place showings headlined by the 4 x 100 meter relay team which turned in a time of 42.60, a full two seconds faster than the second-place team.
 
Sophomore Stephen Dawson had two first-place finishes on the day, as he crossed the line in first in the 110 meter hurdles event with a time of 16.30. Dawson also took first in the Men’s Triple Jump event, turning in a distance of 12.39 meters.
 
Freshman Justin Fleming had a first-place showing in the 200 meter dash, turning in a time of 22.01. Fleming also finished second in the 100 meter dash, crossing the finish line with a time of 10.78.
 
Sophomore Stanley Jones finished second in two field events, taking second in the Men’s Long Jump with a distance of 5.99 meters and second in the Men’s Triple Jump event with a distance of 11.43 meters.
 
Freshman Jacob Richardson took third-place in the Men’s Shot Put event with a distance of 9.90 meters.
 
BC sophomore Shaton Pratt finished third in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.40. Pratt also picked up a fourth-place finish in the 100 meter dash with his time of 11.00.
 
In the 400 meter dash event, Brandon Hopkins finished third with a time of 52.78. Hopkins also took sixth-place overall in the 200 meter dash, turning in a time of 23.60 in the event.
 
In both the 800 meter run and the 1500 meter run, distance runners Justin Holstein and Tiffen Tapia took both sixth and seventh places respectively.
 
On the women’s side, the Tornados were led by a first-place finish in the 5000 meter run by junior Alycia Andrade, who crossed the line with her time of 20:32.00.
 
Sophomore Meghan Grimes took second-place in the 1500 meter run, finishing with a time of 6:43.00.
 
The Tornados will return to action on Friday, March 14, when they will compete at Lees-McRae College in Banner Elk, N.C.
