Intramural Program Philosophy
The Brevard College Intramural Program is designed to provide recreational opportunities for students, faculty, and staff (and their spouses/partners.); offering a unique opportunity to bring the college community together. Participation is voluntary. We encourage Resident Advisors and student leaders to assist in forming teams.
A wide variety of individual and team sports are offered. This enables one to select the physical activities that will best satisfy his/her needs. Activities range from softball, flag football, basketball, floor hockey, volleyball, ultimate frisbee, beach volleyball, bowling and other Sport of the Month Activities.

Statement of Goals of the Brevard College Intramural Program:
- Provide recreational activity that offer participants wholesome competition, physical fitness, and an opportunity to learn new leisure activities.
- Create campus involvement that contributes to the participant’s personal growth and social development.
- Foster social experiences that promote: good sportsmanship, cooperation, leadership, and respect for property and others.
- Provide a healthy outlet for emotional and mental stress.
- Foster affiliation with the educational community and residential life.
- Promote a positive and healthy lifestyle and encourage self-discipline via sport and recreation.
- Non-competitive activities (such as weight training) are designed to improve one’s self-image and confidence without the pressure of competition.
- Competitive individual sports (such as a tennis tournament) helps one gain experience and improve skills under match conditions.
- By competing in team sports and individual forms bonds of friendship tied together by effort and teamwork required to achieve a common goal.
- Student officials are well trained to officiate various contests. The official learns the rules, interpretations, and how to exercise authority to keep a game running safely and smoothly.
The official must make split second decisions; this process encourages responsibility, leadership, assertiveness, and self-confidence.
