Tornados Fall at #22 Tusculum in Last Road Contest of the Season
 
Greeneville, T.N. – The Brevard College women’s basketball team played their last road game of the challenging 2007-08 season on Saturday night, falling to the first place and #22 ranked Tusculum Lady Pioneers, 67-39.
 
The Lady Pioneers jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first three minutes of play and never looked back, leading for the entire 40 minutes of play.
 
Brevard got as close as two points on a lay-up by sophomore Lindsay Thrift at the 11:34 mark, but would not get any closer as the Lady Pioneers pushed the tempo on both ends of the floor, forcing 10 BC turnovers and outscoring the Tornados 20-10 in the paint to take a 30-18 lead at the half.
 
In the second half, the Lady Pioneers were able to extend their lead as they shot 46.7 percent from the floor compared to the Tornados 27.8 percent from the field.
 
Tusculum scored 12 fast break points in the second half of play and pushed their lead to as high as 33 points with 4:47 remaining in the game.
 
For the game, the Tornados shot 28.2 percent while the Lady Pioneers were 25-of-61 for 41 percent. Tusculum outscored Brevard 38-20 in points in the paint and 21-7 in points off turnovers.
 
Leading the way for the Tornados was sophomore Samantha Winn with 11 points on 3-of-5 shooting from the floor and senior Holly Krogman with 10 points to go along with her team-high eight rebounds.
 
The Tusculum balanced scoring attack was lead by forward Stephany Neptune, who finished with 12 points and nine rebounds. Point guard Jasmine Gunn had 11 points, while Shantae Shank had 10 points on the night.
 
The loss drops Brevard to 8-17 on the year, while with the win Tusculum improves to 23-3 on the season.
 
The Tornados (8-17) will return to action next week when they will host the Lady Indians of Newberry College on Wednesday, February 29, at 6 p.m. The Tornados will be hosting a “BLACK OUT”, encouraging all BC fans to wear black to the basketball games.
