Women’s Basketball Defeats Livingstone College, 76-66
 
Greeneville, T.N. – In their second game of the Lady Pioneer Classic hosted by Tusculum College, the Brevard College women’s basketball team defeated Livingstone College 76-66 on Saturday afternoon, picking up their first win of the young 2007-08 season.
 
The win moves the Tornados to 1-1 on the year, while the loss drops Livingstone College to 0-2.
 
The Tornados took an early 8-6 lead early in the first half, when sophomore Samantha Winn connected on two free throws, starting a 6-0 run for BC that pushed the Tornados ahead 15-8. The Tornados would not look back, taking a 38-30 lead into the halftime break.
 
In the second half, the Tornados pushed their lead up to as much as 15 points (59-44) and refused to relinquish the lead to the Blue Bears, eventually scoring the 76-66 victory.
 
Once again as a team the Tornados shot well from the floor, shooting 50% for the game, including connecting on 12-of-21 attempts (57.1%) in the first 20 minutes of play. BC took better care of the ball in their second game of the season, turning it over only 23 times on the day.
 
The Tornados had three players reach double-digits in scoring led by Winn’s 19 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the field. Seniors Courtney Brandon and Holly Krogman added 17 and 13 points, respectively, as the Tornados looked sharp on the offensive end of the court.
 
Krogman was named to the Greene County Express All-Classic Tournament Team, as poured in 41 points and pulled down 13 rebounds in the Tornados two games.
 
The women’s basketball team (1-1) will again be on the road in their next contest, as they will travel to Bristol, Va. to face off with Virginia Intermont on Tuesday, November 20. The game is set for a 6 p.m. tip-off.
