Women’s Basketball Suffers First Home Loss to the Hands of Tusculum
 
Brevard, N.C. – The Brevard College women’s basketball team opened up their South Atlantic Conference play on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Lady Pioneers of Tusculum College, 81-52.
 
The loss drops BC to 3-3 on the season, while Tusculum improves to 4-2 on the year with the win.
 
The Tornados fell behind early to the Lady Pioneers and could never quite catch up despite the fact that BC went a perfect 15-of-15 from the free throw line in the first half.
 
The Lady Pioneers shot a blistering 59 percent from the floor and 55.6 percent from the three-point line, as they connected on 10-of-18 from behind the arc in the first half. The Pioneers pushed their lead up to 21 points late in the first half, yet the Tornados battled back to cut the lead to 48-33 at the halftime break.
 
The Tornados could not cut into the double-digit lead in the final 20 minutes, as they struggled shooting the ball from the field, hitting only 9-of-24 shot attempts for the second half.
 
The difference in the game was in the shooting, as the Pioneers shot 58.9 percent overall for the game, while the Tornados had their worst shooting outing of the season, connecting on only 38.1 percent of their shot attempts for the game.
 
Senior Holly Krogman once again led the Tornados in scoring, as she poured in 18 points, including going 8-of-9 from the charity stripe. Sophomore Samantha Winn was the only other BC player in double-figures, as she had 13 points, going 5-of-6 from the floor.
 
The Lady Pioneers had three players in double-figures led by Ashli Oliver had 26 points, a season-high, as she connected on eight three-pointers for the contest. Right on her heels was Nikki Van Dine with 21 points, as she went 7-of-8 from behind the three-point line on Saturday afternoon. Forward Stephany Neptune had 18 points and a game-high 10 rebounds on the day.
 
The Tornados will be back in action next week, Thursday, December 6, when they will travel to Spartanburg, S.C. to face off with Converse College. The tip-off is schedule for 6 p.m.
