Women’s Basketball Wins on the Road at Converse, 69-59

Spartanburg, S.C. – After playing their last three games at home, the Brevard College women’s basketball team hit the road on Thursday night, defeating Converse College, 69-59, in Spartanburg, S.C.

The win moves the Tornados to 4-3 overall for the year.

The Tornados played well in the opening half, as they lead Converse for most of the 20 minutes of play and took a demanding 32-17 lead into the halftime break.

In the second half, the Tornados were able to control the game and not allow the home team to take the lead. Yet Converse cut the BC lead to three points with a little over three minutes remaining in the game, forcing the Tornados to win the game from the free-throw line.

Coach Wilson’s squad did just that as down the stretch in the closing minutes of regulation, the Tornados hit their foul shots to ward off Converse and seal the 10 point road win.

For the game BC was 23-of-28 from the charity stripe for the game.

Sophomore Samantha Winn led the Tornados with 17 points for the game, including going 4-of-4 from the free throw line.

Sophomore Lindsay Thrift had 16 points off the bench, while senior forward Holly Krogman had 10 points. Both Thrift and Krogman led the Tornados with five rebounds apiece.

The Tornados will return home this Saturday afternoon, December 8, as they will host Limestone College at 3 p.m. This is the last game for BC in the 2007 calendar year, as their next game will not come until January 3, 2008, when they will host Virginia Intermont College at 6 p.m.
