BC Cross Country Competes at Catamount Classic
Cullowhee, N.C. – Both of the Brevard College’s men and women’s cross country teams were in action on Saturday, as they both participated in the Catamount Classic hosted by Western Carolina University.
The Brevard College Tornados competed against Duke University, Clemson University, Furman University, Elon University, Western Carolina University and Spartanburg Methodist.
The women’s cross country team finished sixth in the 4000 Run event with all five competitors finishing close together.
Junior Alycia Andrade led the Tornados on Saturday, turning in a time of 18:46.5.
Sophomore Hannah Beck was the second BC runner to cross the finish line, as she finished with a time of 20:20.5.
The next three BC runners crossed back-to-back-to-back, as sophomore Meghan Grimes finished with a time of 22:13.9, followed by junior Kristen Zerressen at 25:38.1 and senior Lindsay Sherrill with a time of 26:37.6.
On the men’s side, things were pretty much the same in the men’s 5000 Run as the men also finished in sixth-place.
Leading the storm was senior Justin Holstein who finished with a time of 18:10.4.
Finishing behind Holstein was fellow classmate Harrison Vicini who finished at 18:53.2.
Rounding out the scoring for the Tornados was junior Brandon Hopkins with a time of 20:38.8, sophomore Zach Hazen at 21:02.3 and freshman Tiffen Tapia with a time of 21:03.1.
Both teams will be back in action next weekend, Friday, September 21, where they will travel to Newton, N.C. to compete in the Lenoir-Rhyne Invitational.
