Mars Hill Defeats Brevard in Women’s Soccer Action
 
Brevard, N.C. The Brevard women’s soccer team continued their challenging South Atlantic Conference play on Wednesday afternoon, as they fell to the visiting Mars Hill Lions, 6-0.
 
The loss drops the Tornados to 4-11 on the year, while Mars Hill improves to 8-6.
 
The Lions struck first, scoring early in the first half in the 5th minute, when Abby Martin hit a cutting Tabatha Woodson in the middle of the box. Woodson then put a shot past BC’s keeper Sydney Douglas to give the visiting Lions an early 1-0 lead.
 
The Lions would add three goals by way of Alicia Blaha, Riley Dorsey and Garrett Patton over the next 40 minutes of play to take a 4-0 lead into the halftime period over the Tornados.
 
Mars Hill’s Alicia Blaha added her second goal of the game at the 53:03 mark, to push the lead to 5-0.
 
MHC’s Leslie Frazier scored the final goal with 7:13 remaining in the game, as she was in the right place at the right time, recovering a miss played ball by the BC defense and putting a shot over the outstretched hands of BC’s Douglas.
 
The Lions were able to take advantage of their deep bench, as 22 different players saw minutes in the game compared to the Tornados total roster of 16 players.
 
Brevard was out shot 21-5 for the match, while the Lions held a huge advantage of 10-1 in corner kicks.
 
In the goal for BC’s Douglas had six saves, as she faced 21 shots for the game.
 
While the Tornados offense managed only five shots for the game, they were able to put three of them on frame, but couldn’t get one into the back of the net.
 
The women’s soccer team will look to bounce back this Saturday, October 13, when they will step out of SAC play to square off with Reinhardt College out of Georgia at 1 p.m. on the campus of Brevard College.
