Tornados Fall to Huskies of HBU in Women’s Soccer Action
St. Augustine, Fla. – The Brevard College women’s soccer team traveled to the Sunshine State this weekend to compete in the Elite Hospitality Classic hosted by Flagler College. The Tornados took on Houston Baptist University, a program in transition to NCAA Division I, who defeated the Brevard College Tornados, 7-1.
The loss drops the Tornados to 4-14-1 on the season, while Houston Baptist improved to 11-5-2 overall with the win.
The Huskies Gemma McDonald put the HBU on the board first, in the fourth minute, off an Ana Viscariello pass. McDonald added two more goals later in the opening half and netted her fourth in the opening seconds of the second half.
Houston Baptist’s Isla Cameron scored what would be the game winner, an unassisted goal in the 22nd minute.
Michelle Rich recorded a pair of saves for HBU while her counterpart, Sydney Douglas was much busier with eight saves for Brevard.
Jennifer King got the Tornados on the board with an unassisted goal in the 55th minute.
Houston Baptist outshot Brevard 20-11 and held a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.
The Tornados will conclude their 2007 season on Saturday, November 3, when they will play host Flagler College at 7 p.m.
