Women’s Soccer Falls to Coker College, 4-2
Spartanburg, S.C. – The Brevard College women’s soccer team scored a goal in each period, but it wasn’t enough as the Tornados fell to Coker College, 4-2 in Spartanburg, S.C. on Saturday.
The loss drops the Tornados to 4-10 on the season, while Coker improves to 4-7-1.
The Tornados found themselves down 3-0 early, as Coker’s Bridget Clark scored three goals within the first 20 minutes of the match, giving the home team an early lead.
Yet BC did not blow away, as Nikki Peacock scored on a shot from the top of the six-yard box, putting the shot right through the defense’s legs and putting the Tornados on the board at the 43:32 mark.
Down 3-1 coming out of the halftime period, BC would score first and cut the Coker lead to 3-2 at the 62:27 mark. Ashley Fincher would capitalize on a penalty kick opportunity to cut Coker’s lead to one with less than 30 minutes remaining in the game.
However, Coker would add an insurance goal by way of Katie Holliday in the 81st minute to seal the 4-2 victory over the Tornados.
The game was evenly played, as both teams posted nine shots and two corner kicks for the match. Coker was called for 10 fouls, while Brevard was whistled for six of their own.
The women’s soccer team will be back in action on Wednesday, October 10, when they will host Mars Hill College at 3:30 p.m. on the campus of Brevard College.
