Women’s Soccer Falls to Reinhardt, 4-1 on Saturday Afternoon

Brevard, N.C. – The Brevard College women’s soccer team was in action on Saturday afternoon, as they fell to Reinhardt College 4-1.

The loss drops the Tornados to 4-12 on the year, while Reinhardt improves to 9-3-1 with the win.

Reinhardt got on the board first at the 28:37 mark of the first half, when Jesse Larson dribbled to the middle of the field and put a laser shot on target from the top of the penalty box. The shot was blocked by BC’s goal keeper Sydney Douglas, but managed to slip out of her hands and through her legs only to edge across the goal line for the score and the early 1-0 lead.

The Tornados came back with a goal of their own less than five minutes later at the 31:19 mark, when Kelly Harris put a ball into the box where Carrilea Potter got her head on the ball. Potter headed the ball backwards and over the head of the Reinhardt goal keeper sneaking the ball just inside the top crossbar to knot the score up at 1-1.

Reinhardt would take the lead again in the 57th minute when Ali Bennett recovered a rebounded ball on the left side of the box and put a shot just inside the front left post past a diving Douglas to take the 2-1 lead.

Reinhardt added another goal at the 61:24 mark, when Lindsay Taylor received a throw in and dribbled the ball from the left side into the middle of the field. Taylor then lined up a shot from 20 yards out and put it into the top right corner of the net to push the lead to 3-1.

Reinhardt’s Ali Bennett added an insurance goal late in the second half to help secure the 4-1 victory.

BC keeper Sydney Douglas again was strong in between the posts for the Tornados, as she corralled 11 saves for the match.

As a team the Tornados put eight of their 12 shots on goal.

The women’s soccer team will play their last home game of the 2007 season on Tuesday, October 16, when they will play host to Anderson University at 4 p.m.
