Railsplitters Out-Shoot Tornados to Win, 9-1
Brevard, N.C. - The Brevard College Tornados women’s soccer team fell to the Lincoln Memorial University Railsplitters 9-1 Saturday afternoon in Brevard. The powerful Railsplitter offense proved to be too much for the Tornados as they were out shot 42-3 during the contest.
Lincoln Memorial started the scoring early as Heloisa de Oliveira put a shot past the BC keeper Sydney Douglas and into the upper left corner of the net at the 7:18 mark of the first half, giving LMU a 1-0 lead that they would not relinquish.
Oliveira would go on to score three more goals on the day, two more in the first half to help give the Railsplitters a demanding 5-0 lead at the halftime intermission.
The Tornados only score came from Carcy Covonaough at the 84:17 mark. Cavaonaugh came off of the bench to put a header to the right side of the net on an assist from Courtney Sofferin. This was Covonaough’s first goal of the year, as she has been the back up goalkeeper for most of the season.
Sydney Douglas proved to be a force in the net making some incredible diving stops, as she faced an onslaught of shots all game long. She ended up with 15 total saves.
The women’s soccer team will return to action on Wednesday, October 3, when they will travel to Wingate, N.C. to face off with the Wingate University Bulldogs. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
