Women’s Soccer Falls to Wingate, 3-0
 
Wingate, N.C. – The Brevard College women’s soccer team was on the road on Wednesday night, as they traveled to Wingate, N.C. to due battle with the Bulldogs of Wingate University.
 
The Tornados fought valiantly but were unable to push across a goal, ultimately falling to Wingate, 3-0.
 
The loss drops BC to 4-9 on the season, while Wingate improved to 4-6-1.
 
Wingate put a point on the board early, as at the 6:08 mark of the first half, Jenni Barbett notched her first goal of the season as she collected a rebound in the box and put a shot into the back of the net, giving the Bulldogs an early 1-0 lead.
 
The Bulldogs would add an insurance goal at the 77:36 mark of the second period, when Madi Welch assisted Kate Laukhart on the goal, pushing Wingate’s lead to 2-0.
 
Wingate’s Barbett scored the Bulldogs third goal of the game late helping to seal the victory for the home team.
 
Again BC goalkeeper Sydney Douglas faced a flurry of shots, picking up 11 saves on the night.
 
For the match, Wingate was called for 19 fouls compared to the Tornados eight. Wingate was also called for four offside violations in comparison to BC’s one.
 
The women’s soccer team will step out of SAC play in their next match, as they will face off with Coker College on Saturday, October 6, at 10 a.m.
