Tornados Fall at Newberry in Women’s Soccer Action
Newberry, S.C. – The Brevard College women’s soccer team was in action on Wednesday afternoon, as they traveled to Newberry, S.C. to due battle with the Newberry Indians of the South Atlantic Conference.
The Tornados fell to the Lady Indians, 10-1, falling to 3-6 on the year.
Newberry jumped out to the early 1-0 lead when Amberly Fowler slipped a shot just past BC goal keeper Carcy Cavanaugh in the fourth minute of the game. The Lady Indians never looked back.
Brevard avoided the shutout when Ashley Fincher scored a header off a corner kick by Kelly Harris in the 86th minute.
Brevard’s Carcy Cavanaugh was starting in goal for Sydney Douglas, who was not playing due to an injury she suffered in the Tornados previous game.
Cavanaugh played valiantly as she posted eight saves including two spectacular ones that tried to help stop the bleeding.
For the game Newberry out shot the Tornados 34-3. The Lady Indians also took 13 corner kicks to the Tornados one.
The Tornados next match-up will take place Saturday, September 22, at home versus fellow SAC opponent Tusculum. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
