Tornados Drop Two Road Contests at King College
 
Bristol, T.N. – The Brevard College women’s softball team could not find their offense on Wednesday afternoon, as the Tornados were shutout in both games of a double-header to the King College Tornado in Bristol, T.N.
 
King College defeated the Tornados 4-0 in game one and then went on to beat BC 8-0 in five innings in game two.
 
The two losses drops the Tornados to 8-10 on the year, while King College improves to 10-10 on the season with the sweep.
 
Game 1: King 4, Brevard 0
 
In the opener on Wednesday afternoon, the Tornados fell behind early to King College and couldn’t battle back, falling 4-0 in seven innings.
 
King College pounced on the Tornados early, pushing across three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Emily Bennett singled to plate lead off hitter Kara Faidley and put the home team up 1-0. 
 
In the same inning, Emilee Edelman singled to score both Bennett and Kristie Keys to put King College up 3-0 after one.
 
The Tornados just could not find their offense, as BC collected only four hits for the game and failed to push across a run against King starter Ashley White.
 
King College added a run in the bottom of the fourth by way of a Keys’ solo homerun, putting the home team on top 4-0 which proved to be the final score.
 
King’s White got the win for the Tornado, as she allowed only four hits in the complete game shutout.
 
The loss went to BC’s Jennifer Gift (5-6) who went six innings, giving up four runs on seven hits while striking out seven for the game.
 
Brevard shortstop Kristina Clayton led the Tornados at the plate, going 2-3 at the plate. Freshman Sarah Carlos was 1-2 with a double and was hit by a pitch, while senior Lindsey Morgan was 1-3.
 
For King College, Keys was 1-2 with a homerun and two runs scored, while catcher Edleman was 1-3 with two RBIs.
 
Game 2: King 8, Brevard 0 (5)
 
In game two of the double-header, again the Tornados struggled at the plate while King College used a seven run second inning to defeat Brevard 8-0 in five innings.
 
Again King scored in the first inning of play, as third-baseman Emily Bennett had an RBI single to but the Tornado up 1-0.
 
However, King College used a seven run second inning headlined by six hits and two BC errors, to pull ahead for good and down the Tornados 8-0 in game two.
 
Senior hurler Aimee Rogers (3-4) picked up the loss for the Tornados, giving up eight runs, none of which were earned, on nine hits while striking out four hitters.
 
The win went to King’s Chelsea Osborne, who allowed only three hits over five innings while striking out seven BC hitters.
 
For Brevard, Katie Thornburg, Katie Brown and Sarah Carlos were all 1-2 for the game.
 
King was led by Bennett, who was 2-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Second-baseman Shannon Henry was 1-3 with two RBIs and a run scored, while center-fielder Amanda Crumpler was 1-3 with two RBIs and a run scored as well.
 
The Tornados (8-10) will return home on Saturday, March 15, when they host Belmont Abbey College. The double-header is slated for a 2 p.m. start time at the Brevard College Softball Field on the campus of Brevard College.
