Tornados Split With Limestone on Saturday Afternoon

Gaffney, S.C. – The Brevard College softball team split with the Lady Saints of Limestone College on Saturday afternoon, bouncing back from a 3-0 loss in game one to win game two 3-0.

With the split the Tornados improve to 1-3 on the year.

Game One: Limestone 3, Brevard 0

The opening game of a double-header would prove to be a good one, as the pitchers on both teams were cruising along holding both teams scoreless for the first five innings of play.

However, in the bottom of the sixth inning the Lady Saints got on the board plating three to take the 3-0 lead, which would prove to be enough for the win.

After the first two batters made outs, Limestone got things started by way of a walk to first-baseman Woolgar. Owen would then single putting runners on first and second. After a wild pitch which moved both runners up into scoring position, Brown doubled to clear the bases and pick up two RBIs. Sheldon then reached on an error and advanced to second base while Brown moved scored on the play to give the Lady Saints the 3-0 lead.

For the game, the Tornados managed four hits over seven innings as Limestone’s Demarr picked up the win going 7.0 innings, with 10 strikeouts and one walk.

Junior lead-off hitter Beth Brooker went 2-3 in the game, while Katie Thornburg and Kristin Tettemer had the other two BC hits, both of which were doubles.

After being shutout in game one, the Tornados pushed across a run early to take a 1-0 lead after one. Lead-off hitter Beth Brooker singled to start off the inning and then stole second. Kristin Tettemer than laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Brooker over to third. Sophomore shortstop Kristina Clayton then singled to plate Brooker and put BC on the board at 1-0.

Brevard would then score in the fourth as sophomore Jennifer Brown, who lead off the inning with a double, scored on an Amber Clontz single to push the Tornados lead to 2-0 over the Lady Saints.

In the seventh, the Tornados added an insurance run as catcher Amber Klein scored on a passed ball to give Brevard a 3-0 lead.
