Tennis Head Coach
Brevard College Tennis enters a new era moving into its first full year in NCAA D2 competition. The men and women’s program has grown by leaps and bounds over the last two years. Head Coach Paul Thomson is looking forward to the challenge of moving the program forward as a competitive NCAA D2 program. Thomson is entering his second year as the Brevard Head Coach. In his first year he took the Men’s team to a 10-12 record 4-3 in the conference and a #4 regional ranking. A huge improvement from the previous 4-9 3-7 conference make from the year before. The women finished 5 –17 in their first full year back in competition. “I feel very fortunate to have been given an opportunity here at Brevard. I am looking forward to building a program here at Brevard College. The potential strong competitive program here is unlimited. I think the college and the athletic department is moving in the right direction. We have a great foundation with our players to work to build an excellent tennis program here at Brevard.”
Paul Thomson is a native of Birmingham Alabama. He is a 1995 Graduate of Samford University where he earned his B.S. in history and political science. Thomson continued his education at the University of Alabama at Birmingham earning his Class B teaching certification in secondary education specializing in social sciences. He came to Brevard from his alma mater Samford University where he served as the assistant men’s and women’s coach.
Thomson is a certified Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) instructor. His background includes teaching and coaching at the club, high school and collegiate levels. Paul Thomson is married to his wife Sherer who is also a native of Birmingham Alabama. They live here in Brevard with their dog Flea.
