Religious Life is under the direction of the chaplain and a core group of interested students, faculty and staff who plan and implement campus activities that foster spiritual growth for all walks of faith. Bible studies, prayer groups, campus worship, theological dialogues, retreats, hands-on mission opportunities and spiritual conversations are just some of the key elements to religious life. Our chaplain’s office door is open to all students, faculty or staff who are seeking pastoral counseling, spiritual discernment or simple fellowship.
Campus Worship
Campus Worship is held periodically throughout the semester in The Francis Pavilion of the Porter Center. Our hope is to have the services with much participation in planning and leading the worship by students, faculty and staff. Our worship will be an ecumenical Christian service that is open to everyone. Come as you are! The service is held in a relaxed atmosphere where we sing, share our faith stories, pray for our concerns and joys, and create space to hear God’s call upon our lives.
Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA)
FCA is a national organization that first developed to meet the spiritual needs of organized and professional sports. Although “athletes” are indicated in the title, this organization is open to ALL students who are looking for an opportunity to fellowship with other Christian students. FCA meets weekly and provides a way for students to grow in their faith and express that faith in worthy projects, both on and off-campus.
Wesley Society of Friends
Following in the spiritual direction of John and Charles Wesley, who as college students, journeyed on a quest for accountable spiritual disciplines and social holiness. This group of students, faculty and staff gather twice a month to fellowship and discuss how faith is at work in their world and in their life.
Campus Crusade for Christ
This national organization developed a ministry to invite people on campuses who are looking to know Jesus Christ in a personal way, to worship and to be involved in Bible studies. The chapter of Campus Crusade meets on Thursdays at 8pm in The Underground, and all are welcome to attend.
BC Catholic Fellowship
This is a fairly new group organized on the Brevard College campus with mostly students who want to know more about their Catholic faith and to fellowship with other Catholic students on campus. Periodically, the area Roman Catholic priest will come and lead mass on campus. There are also weekly Bible studies and reflections.
Soul Food
These special gatherings will be opportunities for theological conservation over lunch. We will meet in the Reserve Dining room, where we will nourish both our bodies and our theological minds with good food! Check campus calendars for time and location of Soul Food.
Retreats and Service Mission Trips
Through the semesters, the religious life council plans opportunities for spiritual life retreats and hands-on mission trips. If you would like to help plan these significant community building events or are interested in participating, please talk to our Chaplain!
Off-Campus Worship Services
The Chaplain’s office is always willing to help students of any faith to locate a place of worship within the surrounding Brevard area. In the chaplain’s office, there is a growing list of churches, synagogues, mosques, and faith groups with vital information about meeting places, times of gathering and transportation needs. |
