All full-time students are expected to have a primary health insurance policy with coverage limits set by the College. Since this policy mandates that all full-time students are covered to a certain extent, the College will automatically bill all students $560 a year for coverage under the College’s Student Health Insurance coverage through UnitedHealthcare.
A student may waive coverage under this plan if he/she has a primary provider for health insurance that meets all of the College’s plan requirements and is approved by the College. Students will need to provide information about their coverage during the waiver process as outlined by Campus Life.
If a student does not enroll or waive the insurance plan by an established deadline each year (set by Campus Life), he/she will be considered non-compliant and billed for the premium payment for the entire academic year and automatically enrolled into the College sponsored plan. Once a student is enrolled there are no cancellations or refunds offered. Additionally:
The College reserves the right to audit all waivers in order to ensure compliance with the College insurance requirements. Students should have a copy of their insurance policy as they may be asked to provide this documentation.
Every eligible student must complete the enrollment/waiver process each year to ensure uninterrupted service at the preferred level of coverage.
Dependents are not automatically enrolled in coverage. Students must request that they be added to the policy each year.
*Students approved to register as a student after the insurance enrollment deadline must submit an insurance enrollment/waiver application at the time of registration. Failure to do so will result in automatic enrollment into coverage.
Referrals can be made to area health care providers, but the cost of any off campus visits, lab, or x-rays will be billed by that health care provider and filed under the student’s primary health insurance. All students are encouraged to seek health care wherever they feel comfortable, but it is recommended that the student go through the Stamey Wellness Center on campus to help hold down the cost of health care.
