Wellness Center

The Wellness Center, located in the Mary Frances Stamey Center, offers a warm reception area where students are welcomed and assisted in connecting with professional services and personal help as quickly as possible.

Counseling Services
provides free, confidential counseling to the students, staff and faculty of Brevard College. Counseling Services contributes to the College’s mission by providing resources to support and enhance the success of students in the academic and social environment of the college as well as in the personal and developmental aspects of their lives.

Medical Services is available to assess and teach. Our exciting partnership with Sisters of Mercy Urgent Care located here in Brevard allows for a quick referral to local health care professionals, all while giving us access to a 20 hour per week nurse on campus!  In keeping with the role of the College, the nurse will be available to assist students who are sick and to teach preventive measures to stay healthy in order to best achieve academic success.

Religious & Spiritual Life Seeking to respond to the rich diversity of religious traditions and spiritual practices represented among community members, the College has created a multi-faith program through the Religious and Spiritual Life program while still maintaining our affiliation with the United Methodist Church.  Inspired by the ministry of the United Methodist Church, we welcome a diversity of religious preferences among the student body who seek to learn in an atmosphere of nurturing one’s spiritual path.

Student Health Insurance

All full-time students are expected to have a primary health insurance policy with coverage limits set by the College.  Since this policy mandates that all full-time students are covered to a certain extent, the College will automatically bill all students $560 a year for coverage under the College’s Student Health Insurance coverage through UnitedHealthcare.

A student may waive coverage under this plan if he/she has a primary provider for health insurance that meets all of the College’s plan requirements and is approved by the College. Students will need to provide information about their coverage during the waiver process as outlined by Campus Life.

If a student does not enroll or waive the insurance plan by an established deadline each year (set by Campus Life), he/she will be considered non-compliant and billed for the premium payment for the entire academic year and automatically enrolled into the College sponsored plan. Once a student is enrolled there are no cancellations or refunds offered.  Additionally:
The College reserves the right to audit all waivers in order to ensure compliance with the College insurance requirements. Students should have a copy of their insurance policy as they may be asked to provide this documentation.
Every eligible student must complete the enrollment/waiver process each year to ensure uninterrupted service at the preferred level of coverage.
Dependents are not automatically enrolled in coverage. Students must request that they be added to the policy each year.
*Students approved to register as a student after the insurance enrollment deadline must submit an insurance enrollment/waiver application at the time of registration. Failure to do so will result in automatic enrollment into coverage.

Referrals can be made to area health care providers, but the cost of any off campus visits, lab, or x-rays will be billed by that health care provider and filed under the student’s primary health insurance. All students are encouraged to seek health care wherever they feel comfortable, but it is recommended that the student go through the Stamey Wellness Center on campus to help hold down the cost of health care.
