Required Health Information

Incoming Students:  To complete your enrollment, you must return your completed Immunization form before January 9, 2013.  Also, in order to better serve you, Brevard College asks that you please provide a complete health profile by completing the Medical History Form and the Physical Exam Form

Services Available to Students

The Center offers:

  • Common medications at the Clinic
  • No appointment necessary – Students can walk in and receive prompt attention
  • On-line registration – Students can fill out all required paperwork online (http://www.urgentcares.org/onlinereg/index.html)
  • Short waiting times – Visits to the Urgent Care Center will typically take less than one hour
  • Convenient care – Students can get the care they need on the weekend too
  • Easy access – Urgent Care is located on the corner of Caldwell and Whitmire Street next to Sonic Drive-In
  • Reasonable fees – The fees are typically much less than the emergency room
  • Commitment to serve Brevard College students, faculty and staff
  • A nurse is in the Stamey Wellness Center 20 hours a week to provide evaluation and treatment of all non-life-threatening injuries and illnesses
  • After hours consultation are available as needed to assess situations
  • The Center will work closely with the College's Peer Health Advocate Team and others on campus to provide wellness programming and information
  • Since all students are required to have health insurance (either the College's or their own), the Center can directly process and bill for services (that go outside of the normal evaluation and treatment in Stamey) as well as provide many medications on site (to reduce extra hassles of going to pharmacies, etc.) and in some cases refill prescriptions.  Please keep in mind that this will vary depending on individual situations and co-pays and deductibles that need to be met.
  • The Urgent Care Center is open five days a week (including Saturdays!) and there is always a fully licensed staff (including a doctor) available
  • The Urgent Care Center has a state of the art facility with technology that allows for immediate evaluation and treatment (x-rays, EKGs, laboratory tests, blood screens/analysis, etc.)

Flu Clinics
Health Services will sponsor Flu Clinics offering both the Seasonal and the H1N1 vaccine.  More information will be available once the vaccinations are obtained.

Referrals are made, when appropriate, to
Transylvania County Department of Public Health, which provides a women's clinic and some other services at no cost to the student (such as immunizations and STD testing)

Medical services are provided to the Brevard College community by Sisters of Mercy Urgent Care. 

A nurse is on campus from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Mondays, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesdays and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursdays during academic sessions.  The Sisters of Mercy Urgent Care Center is staffed by board-certified family and emergency physicians who are skilled in the treatment of non-life-threatening injuries and illnesses.  Laboratory and X-ray services are also available at the Urgent Care center.

The Office of Medical Services is located on the first floor of the Stamey Wellness Center.   For questions about Medical Services, or to contact the nurse on campus, call 828-884-8244.

For crisis or emergency situations after hours or on weekends, contact your Community Director or Campus Security who work together to handle after-hour campus emergencies.
