When you visit Brevard College, you’ll find yourself in an area known nation-wide as ”The Cycling Capitol of the South.” Brevard’s national reputation for world-class cycling is unprecedented. Pisgah National Forest and DuPont State Forest alone offer over 300 miles of peerless single track. It’s no wonder Brevard College’s Cycling Team has won the past three Division II Collegiate Mountain Bike Championships! Our trails will challenge and awe anyone from the seasoned cyclist to the brand-new beginner.

Pisgah Forest

  • 500,000 acres with hundreds of miles for mountain biking and road cycling
  • 400 miles of singletrack and “half” track trails; well-known for its rooty, rocky, steep, and often slick terrain

DuPont State Recreational Forest

  • 10,400 acres with nearly 100 miles of forest roads and trails open to mountain biking (challenges for everyone from beginner to expert)

Bracken Mountain Recreation Area

  • Owned by the City of Brevard, the only city in the southeastern U.S. tht offers multiple trail access into a national forest
  • Starts behind Brevard Music Center and bridges to Pisgah National Forest
  • 7.1 miles of prime mountain biking trails

Blue Ridge Parkway

  • One of the best road cycling byways in the United States, featuring steep rolling terrain and extensive climbs and descents
  • Stretches from Cherokee North Carolina to Waynesboro, VA for a total of 469 miles
  • Accessible from Transylvania County via US Highway 276 N or NC Highway 215 N, bordering the county for 20 miles

Annual Cycling Events in Brevard

  • Assault on the Carolina Bicycle Road Race (April)- The annual Assault on the Carolinas offers 3 options of 100K, 60K, and 40K rides over steep grades and mountains. Start and finish is in downtown Brevard.
  • The Pisgah Mountain Bike Stage Race (September) - The second race of the mounatin bike stage race in the U.S. and only the 10th in the world. Professional and community racers bike 195 miles climb over 28,000 feet through the forest in 5 days.
  • The Swank 65 Mountain Bike Journey (November) - Racers start at 2,500 feet and ride a triad of cloverleaf shaped loops winding 65 miles around Gloucester Gap in Pisgah National Forest
