Brevard College will offer a variety of new CreekSide Education classes for the community during the upcoming spring semester.
One of Brevard College’s assistant soccer coaches will teach young players basic skills in “Soccer After School.” The College is also partnering with community businesses for such offerings as Brevard Ballet School’s “Adult Ballet and Conditioning” and The Hub’s “Complete Bicycle Maintenance Workshop.”
For a look inside Transylvania County, the College will offer history courses covering the Cherokee Indians as well the development of Brevard and Rosman. A naturalist walk will be available to help identify some of the county’s local plants and insects. Those interested in the naturalist walk course might consider taking Beginner’s Digital Photography to catalog their new discoveries.
Other highlights from the spring Creekside catalog include a cob-oven building workshop (using natural materials—a great oven for making pizzas); an Argentine Tango dance class; a Jazz History series taught by talented local musician and BC professor Jason DeCristofaro; and various health, wellness, and self-improvement classes to help kick off the New Year.
The very popular “Great Decisions” lecture series will also return to Brevard College this spring. Sponsored by the Foreign Policy Association, topics will cover China’s Foreign Policy; Turkey; Israel; Economic Statecraft and Trade; Defense and the Rise of New Technologies; Food Security; and Climate Change.
Creekside registration opens November 25 and closes December 20. Last-minute, in-person registration will be offered January 6-7, 2014. Visit the Brevard College website anytime to access full course descriptions, meeting times, meeting locations, and the registration form. The CreekSide web address is www.brevard.edu/creekside.
