Faculty and Student Oboists to Present Joint Recital April 23

On Sunday, April 23, at 3 p.m., Brevard College faculty oboist Andrew Parker and his student Susan Ashmore will present a joint recital, with Katherine Morgan Palmer at the piano. The concert will take place in The Porter Center for Performing Arts’ Scott Concert Hall and is free and open to the public.

The two will play a duet, “Shepherds of Provence,” by Eugene Bozza, and each will play several solos. Ms. Ashmore will play a sonata by C.P.E. Bach, the “Carmen Suite” by Robert Elkjer, and a movement from Francis Poulenc’s “Oboe Sonata.” Dr. Parker will play several virtuoso etudes by contemporary composer Gilles Silvestrini.

“This concert offers a rare opportunity for audiences to see a student performing alongside their professor,” says Music Major Coordinator Kathryn Gresham. “It is a wonderful way for a young student to learn the process of preparing a recital.”

Ashmore is a sophomore at Brevard College, and she is pursuing a double major in Mathematics and Music. Parker joined the Brevard College faculty spring semester 2017. He holds degrees from Temple University, University of Texas at Austin, and Yale University, and he has taught and concertized around the United States. He serves as Artistic Coordinator at the Brevard Music Center.
